About the Mentors
Each year from ten to twenty UR sophomores are selected as mentors to a new class of high school SLI students. The friendships that result encourage all participants. But, specifically, University of Richmond mentors promote curricular and extracurricular achievement, offer opportunities for (and inspire) public service, and assist SLI mentees to become compelling candidates for college admission and aid.
We cannot overstate the value of the one-on-one relationship; mentors have an opportunity to develop and foster a unique and lasting relationship with their high school students. By sharing their knowledge of the college application process and by providing academic guidance, our mentors serve as models of academic success for our SLI students. SLI relies on the versatility, enthusiasm, and commitment of mentors--on their dedication to making a dramatic difference.
Leadership
University of Richmond undergraduates--many of them serving as mentors--also coordinate SLI’s various activities.
